Choosing a specialty referral center is an important decision. At West Texas Veterinary Specialist, our goal is to provide advanced specialty expertise while strengthening the relationship between pet owners, referring veterinarians, and our specialty team.
Board-Certified Expertise
Board-certified veterinary specialists complete extensive advanced clinical training beyond veterinary school, including internship or equivalent clinical training, specialty residency training, and rigorous certification requirements within their respective specialties.
This advanced training provides focused expertise in evaluating complex medical and surgical conditions and in interpreting specialized diagnostic findings within the context of the entire patient.
For challenging cases, the value of specialty care extends beyond access to advanced technology. A specialist brings additional training and experience to determining which findings are clinically significant, how they relate to the patient’s other abnormalities, and what diagnostic or treatment steps should come next.
Advanced Diagnostic Technology
Our specialty center brings together advanced diagnostic and minimally invasive capabilities, including 64-slice helical CT with 128-slice reconstruction, diagnostic ultrasound, echocardiography, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, and minimally invasive surgical technology.
Advanced technology is most valuable when paired with the expertise to determine the clinical significance of what it reveals. Our specialists integrate diagnostic findings with each patient’s history, examination, laboratory results, and overall medical condition to help guide appropriate next steps.
Collaborative Referral Care
We work alongside your primary veterinarian—not in place of them.
Primary veterinarians remain essential to a pet’s lifelong healthcare. Specialty care provides an additional level of expertise when a patient develops a complex condition, requires advanced diagnostics or procedures, or would benefit from evaluation by a veterinarian with advanced training in a particular area of medicine.
Following specialty evaluation or procedures, our findings and recommendations are communicated to the referring veterinary team so ongoing care can continue with the veterinarian who knows your pet and remains an essential part of their healthcare.
Specialty Care Close to Home
Families throughout the South Plains, Texas Panhandle, Big Country, Permian Basin, Eastern New Mexico, Western Oklahoma, and surrounding communities can access advanced specialty expertise and diagnostic capabilities closer to home, reducing the need to travel long distances for many specialty services.
Our Referral Philosophy
West Texas Veterinary Specialist is a referral-only outpatient specialty center.
Our role is to complement—not replace—the care provided by your primary veterinarian. Some patients are referred for comprehensive specialty evaluation, while others are referred specifically for an advanced diagnostic test or specialized procedure.
Following your pet’s evaluation or procedure, your veterinarian receives our diagnostic findings, recommendations, and follow-up plan. This collaborative approach allows patients to benefit from specialty expertise while maintaining the trusted relationship and continuity of care provided by their primary veterinary team.
Advanced Technology. Specialist Expertise.
Advanced technology can provide remarkable information—but technology alone does not make a diagnosis.
Our center combines advanced imaging, minimally invasive procedures, and modern diagnostic technology with specialty expertise to interpret those findings within the context of the entire patient.
Our specialists look beyond identifying an abnormality to determine its clinical significance—how it relates to the patient’s symptoms, laboratory findings, other diagnostic results, and overall condition, and what those findings mean for the next steps in care.
Whether a pet requires advanced imaging, endoscopy, surgery, oncology care, or evaluation of a complex medical condition, our goal is to provide clinically meaningful answers and evidence-based recommendations that help referring veterinarians and families make informed decisions about the next steps in care.
